Pure gold is soft and scratches or bends easily, so it is unsuitable for fine work or daily wear. Jewelry is made in 21K or 18K, and 24K is reserved for bars and coins.

Divide the bar price by its weight and compare with the gram price above. The difference is the real premium. 1% to 3% is reasonable for mid sizes and rises for very small bars.
